Portable spotting / trapeze rig

Extension Kit

Must have lift kit. to use extensions.

Parts:

2 -                 5 ft extension uprights.  With cable attachment ears at bottom.

                4 -                 20 ft  guy-out cables

                2 -                 45” lift cable extensions,

10 -                  5/16 Quicklinks,  8 for guy cables.  2 for lift cable extension.

                2 -                 come-alongs.

You MUST !!! use guy wires with the extension kit to fasten the rig down to the ground.

Not using guy wires will result in the rig tipping over.

IT is highly suggested to first set up the rig at least once without the extensions just to get all the parts in the right place, make the trimming adjustments and to get practice on assembly and lifting,

Lifting the rig with the extensions is considerably more difficult.

After assembling the rig parts on the ground, before sliding on the header.

                1. Slide the extension uprights onto the end of the regular uprights. then

                                slide on the header.

                2. Attach the 4 guy wires to the cable tabs on the header corners.

( NOT on the eyebolt for the safety lines. )

                3. Attach the lift cable extension cables ( 45” long) to the end of the regular

                                lifting cables using a quicklink.

                4. Now attach these extended lifting cables  to the top cable ear on the

extension tube. These will be about 50” down from the header.

The rig should now be laid out on the ground as it normally would be for a regular size rig but with the extensions and all it’s associated cables in place.

The rig will now be MUCH more top heavy for lifting and will be much more prone to want to tip while lifting.

While lifting have someone stand on each side of the rig near the far end  of the base and stabilize it so it does not sway from side to side as it is going up. They should stand back and just give light control to the uprights and prepared to get out of the way in case there is a lifting problem. Once the rig is about 1/3 up these people should no longer be needed.

NEVER allow anyone to stand under the rig or any where near the rig where it could fall on them if a cable were to snap or rig topples sideways.

Once the rig is about 2/3 up it will become easier to lift and more stable..

When the rig is up. Immediately secure the rig to the ground using the guy wires and come-alongs.

The guy wires should be fastened to the ground several feet further out from the ends of the base and at least about 5 feet out to the side from the base to provide sideways stability also.

Snug the rig to the ground using the come along. Do NOT crank them tight to where the uprights bow. It takes very little tension to stabilize the rig. Remember the rig will stand there without the guy wires. The guy wires are used to stabilize the rig and prevent toppling when doing any act the has swinging or twirling such as Swinging trapeze or Spanish Web.
